Within every painting there are those times, those voices, that beg us to take a chance, to do something different, to risk everything…. how often do we listen to those voices?

This is a painting by my youngest son Danny.

It is easy for the sons or daughters of an artist to be hidden and lost in the shadow their father casts…. Danny and john are the sunlight that surround and give life to my shadow, they are my greatest source of inspiration, they have become my teachers.

Where as traditional realism defines and directs us to a specific conclusion abstract art can be ambiguous and subjective with symbolic relationships where the artist creates his own language.

Unlike painting forms that we know exist in our conscious reality the abstract painter relies on the subconscious for direction, this forces the abstract artist to question and search sometimes blindly for that right sense of direction. No road map exists to determine the way, he trusts instinct, feeling and intuition. This vagueness or ambiguity leaves greater room for interpretation with the meaning of an abstract painting being unique to each viewer.

Sometimes the viewer will never see the intended message.... better yet is that the viewer creates their own.

My art is not like the flight of an arrow with an intended target but a series of adjustments where my original intent may change or even be forgotten….  

like a ship without a ruder and I am just a passenger.

Are we much to willing and overly submissive to serve the save, predictable and familiar ...... forgetting that there are many ways of reaching a conclusion.

Painting has always been challenging and frustrating for me, but when the fear of never changing out weights the fear of failure I try to reach beyond the limits I have become so familiar and comfortable with… rarely do I reach far enough. 
Within every subject there is unlimited possibilities.  Creativity lays in uncertainty for the solution can be anything.

Waiting

  

 I have to fight for the life of every painting I do.

 You have to trust your instinct, intuition and feelings.

Frozen

    When we try to be perfect and to meet the expectations of others we kill creativity. We have to remain like a child... to     be amazed at everything, we have to remain open minded, vulnerable and curious.
