Shadow

When the need for change out weights the fear of failure a whole new universe is waiting to be uncovered, it lays just beyond the safe, predictable and familiar. It hides within all of us waiting to be awakened.
This painting was done a few years ago, it turned my art into an inward search in an effort to express not what was in front of me but what is inside.
Everyone has an internal compass, it has no needle to guide, you only know you are heading in the right direction when it just feels right. It is undefinable, your guides are instinct, feeling and intuition. It may lay past the likeness of the subject, you have to be willing to give up the safe, predictable and familiar, you have to be curious, vulnerable and willing to fall on your face. The treasures lay inside each of us waiting to be uncovered

Silence

Why do I wait for the sun to search me out of the shadow? Why do I resist that which is so essential to my true nature? Is it out of fear of rejection, humiliation, failure or criticism?

Redefined

My first concern visually with a painting is design. Something has to visually attract my attention, once I engage with a painting I will look for its content. The best paintings will first make me want to engage, Have something that surprises me, and at best will awaken something in me that otherwise would never been awakened.

Solitude

This painting was an effort to express the solitude and isolation that exists within an artists world, there is a constant evaluation and conversation between the artist and his canvas. within each stroke there are a hundred voices talking to you, voices only you can hear.

Anchored

Anchored is a symbolic painting which represents how we anchor ourselves to the save, familiar and predictable. Only when the need for change out weights the fear of changing will we start the journey of self discovery.

Stripes

I Think in terms of flat shapes when I begin a painting, it is the best way, for me, to establish a strong design.

Expression

For me the art may lay past the likeness of the subject, it hides in an undefinable place that dares me to find it. It is different for each one of us. I only know I am getting close when something feel right.

Awareness

"Without this playing with fantasy no creative work has ever yet come to birth. The debt we owe to the play of the imagination is incalculable."
Carl Jung

Waiting

Creativity flourishes in change, it expands when its limits are limitless. The artist must remain open to it’s possibilities and eliminate the dispassionate. The dignity of art is not in it’s constants but in the liberation of it’s possibilities.

Unadorned

I use the female as a symbol of humanity; she embodies all that is good. Her face is undefined as to represent how little we really know of ourselves let alone others. The figure is naked, distorted and exaggerated as to represent how few of us are willing to stand naked (figure of speech) exposing all our flaws and weaknesses.

Frozen

This painting represent the fear that freezes and keep us from finding our own true self. The hands are frozen to the sides of the figure symbolizing the limitations that we place on ourselves in order to fit in and not be rejected or humiliated, but by doing this we limit and sacrifice the possibilities of ever reaching our full potential.
