Frozen
How many of us stand frozen out of fear of rejection, failure and humiliation, never expressing our true self or reaching our full potential.

Yearing
I try to break things down into flat shapes and patterns tying one shape into another forming an abstraction, for me this approach is the easiest way to find a strong design. It does not matter what the subject is everything when broken down will form an abstraction. instead of thinking what more can I put in I think what can I eliminate , what patterns and shapes can I tie together. I look for passive areas to play against active areas. rich color against gray areas. Compliments played against each other will create how dynamic the painting will be. This is the technical part of painting, what you are trying to express is what is most important.

Shadow
When the need for change out weights the fear of failure a whole new universe is waiting to be uncovered, it lays just beyond the safe, predictable and familiar. It hides within all of us waiting to be awakened.
This painting was done a few years ago, it turned my art into an inward search in an effort to express not what was in front of me but what is inside.
Everyone has an internal compass, it has no needle to guide, you only know you are heading in the right direction when it just feels right. It is undefinable, your guides are instinct, feeling and intuition. It may lay past the likeness of the subject, you have to be willing to give up the safe, predictable and familiar, you have to be curious, vulnerable and willing to fall on your face. The treasures lay inside each of us waiting to be uncovered

Solitude
Unadorned
I use the female as a symbol of humanity; she embodies all that is good. Her face is undefined as to represent how little we really know of ourselves let alone others. The figure is naked, distorted and exaggerated as to represent how few of us are willing to stand naked (figure of speech) exposing all our flaws and weaknesses.

Frozen
This painting represent the fear that freezes and keep us from finding our own true self. The hands are frozen to the sides of the figure symbolizing the limitations that we place on ourselves in order to fit in and not be rejected or humiliated, but by doing this we limit and sacrifice the possibilities of ever reaching our full potential.
